Prose Formation Team Summer Soiree
Three lady writers plus one lady musician – Jessie Rose will be the guest performer at this livelier-than-average literary event

There’s nothing worse than writers waffling on for ages at events – if you’ve ever been to a book launch you’ll know that dreaded feeling of being trapped halfway down a row as the reader utters those fateful words: “I think I’ll just give you one more chapter…”

There’s one ancient literary tradition the team are sticking to, however: the glass of 'free' wine included in the ticket price.

The Prose Formation Team, a group of young local writers, understand this – which is why they like to keep things interesting by dividing their events between literature and music. This summer’s event sees the team close Trafford Wordfest on Friday 9 July with short readings by Maria Roberts, Nicola Mostyn and Emma Unsworth, plus a live performance by singer songwriter Jessie Rose.

Jessie Rose is just the latest musician to join in on the action, after the PFT saw sell-out performances with Liam Frost last Christmas and Jesca Hoop and Kathryn Edwards back in summer 2009. It’s something of an intimate send-off for Jessie Rose before she heads off on tour to play the UK festivals after this event’s acoustic set.

All three authors will be reading from their latest work: Nicola Mostyn and Emma Unsworth, who have both previously graced Confidential’s pages with their critical wordsmithery, will be sharing some of their recently completed first novels; Maria Roberts meanwhile, whose Single Mother on the Verge (Penguin), was published to critical acclaim last year, will reveal her first foray into full-length fiction.

There’s one ancient literary tradition the team are sticking to, however: the glass of 'free' wine included in the ticket price.

The Prose Formation Team Summer Soiree, Friday 9 July, 7.30pm, The Chambers, Waterside Arts Centre, Sale, tickets £5 (includes wine, summery gifts and fruit) on 0161 912 5616.
